<h3>Al PAC Milano fino al 14 settembre 2025 – a cura di Diego Sileo.</h3>



<h3>In un’estate che sembra tutta da fuggire, I Only Want You To Love Me è invece la mostra da restare. Un pugno nello stomaco – ma con eleganza. </h3>



<p>Al <a href="https://www.pacmilano.it" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PAC</a><strong> &#8211; </strong>Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, fino al 14 settembre, prende forma una delle esposizioni più potenti e necessarie viste ultimamente in città. A firmarla è il duo artistico Lovett/Codagnone, ovvero John Lovett e Alessandro Codagnone, coppia nella vita e nell’arte, la cui ricerca (attiva dal 1995 fino alla scomparsa di Codagnone nel 2019) si muove su quei territori incandescenti dove amore, potere, identità e desiderio si incrociano e si sfidano.</p>

<p>Il vocabolario visivo e teorico dei due artisti attinge a piene mani all’immaginario leather e <strong>s</strong>adomasochista, ma non per pura provocazione: </p>



<h3>il loro è un lessico radicale, politico, usato per smontare il patriarcato, destabilizzare la norma e far esplodere la molteplicità dei corpi e dei desideri. </h3>

<p>Una pratica che trova affinità con l’Antiteatro di Rainer Werner Fassbinder, il Teatro della Crudeltà di Artaud, e che si iscrive in una genealogia di pensiero queer critica e militante.</p>

<p>È in mostre come questa che Milano mostra il suo lato migliore – quello che osa, che si confronta, che accoglie le identità complesse senza cercare di normalizzarle. </p>



<h3>E allora viene da chiedersi: perché non ce ne sono di più? Perché le grandi città, specie in Italia, faticano ancora ad aprirsi a narrazioni che non siano rassicuranti?</h3>



<p>I<em> </em>Only Want You To Love Me ci ricorda che la cultura serve anche a rompere le scatole, a scardinare la morale borghese, a raccontare vite che esistono davvero ma che ancora fanno paura.</p>

<h3>In un mondo dove luce e ombra si intrecciano in un ballo silenzioso, Gökhun Baltaci trasforma il passato ribelle dell’underground in un universo suggestivo fatto di pastelli e sussurri interiori.&nbsp;</h3>

<p><em><strong>Da</strong>l<strong>l’underground collettivo di Ankara agli intimi pastelli a olio: come descriveresti il percorso evolutivo che ti ha portato a passare dal graffiti all’arte visiva tradizionale? C’è qualcosa che unisce questi due mondi, apparentemente così distanti?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>l nome del gruppo che abbiamo formato durante gli anni universitari era “avareler” (vagabondi). Per circa sei anni abbiamo realizzato stencil, manifesti e mostre clandestine. Col tempo il gruppo ha iniziato spontaneamente a dedicarsi alla pittura personale, e ognuno ha cominciato a creare il proprio linguaggio pittorico. </em></p>



<h3><em>È avvenuto un passaggio dalla strada al foglio. </em></h3>



<p><em>Durante questa transizione mi sono concentrato sulla mia storia e sui miei ricordi; fu così che, nel 2014, provai il pastello per la prima volta e scoprii una perfetta sintonia con questo medium. Da allora lavoro esclusivamente con il pastello. Non credo esista un legame profondo tra la pittura di strada e quella a pastello, sebbene a volte si possano intravedere piccoli collegamenti.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>La tua pratica artistica è fortemente influenzata dall’esplorazione del subconscio, un tema che richiama i principi del surrealismo. Come definiresti il tuo rapporto con il subconscio: è un luogo di creatività infinita oppure un territorio ambiguo e complesso che preferisci non esplorare interamente?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>Le mie opere hanno un lato che sfiora il surrealismo, ma non le definirei completamente surrealiste. Il subconscio può essere un luogo di creatività sconfinata – ovviamente non per tutti, dato che molti artisti lavorano con metodi del tutto diversi – ma per me rappresenta una fonte d’ispirazione, come un lago oscuro, pieno di vuoti, suoni, caverne e lampi. </em></p>



<h3><em>Naturalmente, quel lago merita di essere esplorato, anche se il processo è doloroso: è, dopotutto, la natura stessa del lavoro.</em></h3>



<p><em>Dopo un po’ entrare ed uscire da quel lago perde di significato, tanto che il confine tra il lago e la terra asciutta si confonde. Non rimane molto spazio nella mente dove potersi rifugiare al sicuro, ma essa può sviluppare “branchie” – a volte addirittura “orecchie” – per proteggersi e continuare la narrazione.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>Cosa ti affascina dell’interazione tra il visibile e l’invisibile, tra il familiare e l’inquietante, e come si manifesta questa dualità nelle tue opere? Esiste un’ispirazione precisa che ti guida in questa esplorazione?</strong></em></p>



<p>L<em>’oggetto visibile promette il potere dell’invisibile. Cerco di creare nelle mie opere un’atmosfera, o per essere più preciso, di stabilire un filo conduttore tra oggetti e vuoti, che poggi su un adeguato fondo cromatico. L’elemento visibile, sia esso un oggetto o una figura, diventa così il veicolo dell’emozione invisibile. Confino in un singolo elemento numerose emozioni e contraddizioni, spingendole e tirandole in direzioni opposte. </em></p>



<h3><em>Non so se definirlo la mia “fonte di ispirazione”, ma lunghe passeggiate e la musica costituiscono il duo basilare di questo slancio creativo. </em></h3>



<p><em>Si può dire che i momenti, gli oggetti e le emozioni che attraversano la mia mente vengano “cucinati” durante queste camminate; mi è sempre piaciuto trovarmi in uno stato di camminata, che si tratti del percorso nel mio studio o persino sotto la doccia.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>Il titolo della mostra, “The Sky Is Black and Golden and the Moon Is Shining Red”, è ricco di simbolismo. Come hai scelto questi colori e queste immagini per rappresentare la tua ricerca artistica, e quale ruolo giocano nella comprensione del tuo lavoro?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>Il titolo deriva dal testo della canzone “Picture of Maryanne” dei Swans. Se ricordi l’immagine che abbiamo utilizzato per il poster della mostra, noterai una coppia di occhi scolpiti e dei ricci di mare posati su un divano. Penso che quel dipinto rappresenti la spina dorsale dell’esposizione, essendo quasi interamente realizzato in oro e nero. Mentre lavoravo a quel dipinto, ascoltavo “Picture of Maryanne” e poi mi resi conto che il leggero tintinnio in sottofondo era quasi identico ai toni dorati del dipinto e alle forme che richiamavano il sangue.</em></p>



<p><em><strong>Gli oggetti rappresentati nelle tue opere sembrano assumere un profondo significato psicologico. Come scegli gli elementi ricorrenti nelle tue composizioni? C’è un oggetto in particolare che ti ha sorpreso per la sua capacità di rivelare nuovi strati di significato durante il processo creativo?</strong></em></p>

<p><em>Alcune emozioni e atmosfere, se ci&nbsp; pensi costantemente, possono costruirsi come veri imperi nella mente, che poi emergono attraverso vari oggetti. </em></p>



<h3><em>Un oggetto non ha mai un unico significato: racchiude al suo interno momenti, sensazioni, emozioni e contraddizioni. Riutilizzando lo stesso elemento in composizioni diverse, esso può assumere nuove valenze ogni volta. </em></h3>



<p><em>Non tutti gli oggetti si adattano facilmente a questo “alfabeto” che sto cercando di definire; desidero studiare e dipingere quegli elementi che uso ripetutamente, come se stessi scolpendo un dente, fino a quando non riescono a liberarsi dalla loro forma e dal loro significato abituali. È difficile iniziare a pensare a nuovi oggetti, ma, per natura, innovazioni ed elementi inediti entrano inevitabilmente nei miei dipinti senza che io possa fermarli.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>Le tue opere invitano a una riflessione profonda e complessa, pur emanando un’atmosfera serena. Come riesci a conciliare quella calma apparente con la tensione nascosta nelle tue creazioni?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>Perché, purtroppo, è così che vivo. Anche quando non c’è una minaccia evidente, dentro di me c’è una tensione infinita, una continua lotta interna. </em></p>



<h3><em>“Fight with Clubs” di Francisco Goya ritrae due giganti in guerra su una pianura, e quasi ogni mattina mi sveglio così: come se convivessi con un nemico interiore. </em></h3>



<p><em>Questi giganti, che si scontrano sotto la patina serena dei miei dipinti, sono in guerra sia dietro le quinte che all’interno dell’opera. Eppure, c’è anche quel talismano: sembra che nulla di straordinario si veda, come se fosse semplicemente una scena, ma le voci dei giganti sussurrano attraverso il dipinto, attirando lo spettatore sempre più all’interno della scena. È una trappola, una vera e propria trappola ideata per intrappolare chi guarda.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>C’è una storia o un’esperienza della tua vita che senti sia emersa inaspettatamente attraverso il lavoro di questa serie? In che modo la tua crescita personale ha influenzato il linguaggio visivo che usi oggi?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>Quasi tutto è avvenuto in modo inaspettato, ma c’è anche qualcosa di prevedibile. Quando inizio un dipinto, quando allestisco la scena, essa cambia continuamente, portandomi in luoghi inaspettati e in aree fino ad allora indefinibili. Questo processo è naturale: non lavoro mai partendo da bozze. Il linguaggio visivo che utilizzo oggi è ancora in evoluzione, proprio come me – non so come ci influenziamo a vicenda. </em></p>



<h3><em>Creare questo linguaggio è come subire un incidente stradale: all’istante non riesci a definirlo né a comprenderlo, ma poi ti rendi conto di aver avuto un incidente. </em></h3>



<p><em>E bisogna essere aperti anche agli “incidenti”.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>La musica, e in particolare i riferimenti ai Swans e alla loro canzone “Picture of Maryanne”, sembra essere una presenza costante nelle tue opere. In che modo la musica influenza il ritmo e l’atmosfera del tuo lavoro? Esiste una connessione tra le emozioni che essa suscita in te e le sensazioni che cerchi di trasmettere attraverso le immagini?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>Assolutamente. La musica mi fa impazzire, proprio come certi odori. Se il subconscio fosse un piatto, verrebbe cucinato nel fuoco della musica. </em></p>



<h3><em>Ascolto <a href="https://toh-magazine.com/2020/10/woodkid-s16-tra-demoni-e-fumi-di-zolfo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">musica</a> 24 ore al giorno – anche mentre dormo c’è sempre un sottofondo musicale. </em></h3>



<p><em>Quelle cose informe che volano nella mia mente sembrano muoversi e svanire insieme alle note, permeando inevitabilmente l’atmosfera del dipinto. Conosco molte connessioni tra le mie opere e la musica che ascolto, connessioni che non si possono spiegare a parole, e non mi è possibile farlo.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>Questa è la tua prima mostra in Italia e un debutto importante in una galleria prestigiosa come Kaufmann Repetto. Come ti senti nel presentare il tuo lavoro a livello internazionale e in un contesto così rinomato per la prima volta?</strong></em></p>



<p><em>Sì, è davvero emozionante. Collaborare con Kaufmann repetto e incontrare il pubblico italiano è stata un’esperienza straordinaria. Il giorno di apertura c’erano molti pittori italiani, sia affermati che giovani, e questo mi ha reso particolarmente felice: è stata una giornata di inaugurazione intensa. Ne sono davvero contento. Le conversazioni con i pittori italiani che ho appena conosciuto continuano online, e seguo con entusiasmo le loro meravigliose opere. Vediamo cosa succederà nei prossimi giorni: attendo con gioia ed eccitazione.</em></p>

<p>È alquanto insolito sentire ancora usare Boys &amp; Girls dato che mai come negli ultimi anni le politiche dell&#8217;identità sono diventate una preoccupazione culturale, facendo si che questa frase abbia anche delle implicazioni socio-politiche e culturali negative.</p>



<p>In questa mostra invece tutti gli aspetti socio-culturali sono impliciti in tutte le opere. Sono esplicitamente affrontati in opere come nel film di Penelope Spheeris I DON&#8217;T KNOW (1970/1971)&nbsp;</p>

<p>Il curatore Alex Berns ha spiegato che gli obiettivi di Boys &amp; Girls sono quelli di ricordare che l&#8217;estetica femminile e maschile non sono solo una questione di identità, stile e moda, ma principalmente quella dell&#8217;esperienza, del desiderio, dell&#8217;idealizzazione e della mercificazione.&nbsp;</p>



<p>In questa mostra sono presenti: raccolte fotografie, video still, video effimeri prodotti da una coorte multigenerazionale di artisti che condividono una serie di caratteristiche comuni e inclinazioni <a href="https://toh-magazine.com/2022/01/leigh-bowery-e-i-suoi-leggendari-look-celebrati-in-una-nuova-mostra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">estetiche</a>.</p>

<p>Dominate in questa mostra è la fotografia in bianco e nero. Dal grintoso al raffinato, le immagini che compongono Boys &amp; Girls spaziano dallo snapshot tradizionale alle foto da studio.</p>



<h4>La tipologia che è volutamente stata esclusa da questa mostra è quella commerciale patinata e l&#8217;ormai onnipresente “selfie”&nbsp;</h4>



<p>L&#8217;estetica predominante è la ritrattistica. La vicinanza di un&#8217;opera all&#8217;altra  fa si che le loro relazioni rompano il loro isolamento e creino dei link insoliti ma esteticamente collegati. In Boys &amp; Girls infatti accade che un&#8217;istantanea della troupe della fabbrica di Warhol, accompagni l&#8217;immagine di Heji Shin di due uomini che fanno sesso anale. </p>

<p>Fondata nel 2019 e situata nella parte più bassa del Lower East Side, a Manhattan, <a href="https://www.nogalleryla.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">No Gallery</a> è uno spazio espositivo incentrato sugli artisti emergenti e di metà carriera.</p>



<p>Alex Berns è un curatore e mercante d&#8217;arte privato specializzato in arte moderna oscura e artisti contemporanei di metà e fine carriera.</p>

<h4>È approdato ai nostri lettori italiani qualche mese fa, quando noi di TOH! Lo abbiamo intervistato lo scorso Gennaio. Adesso arriva fisicamente con le sue opere in Italia invitandoci a entrare nel suo immaginario seducente e accattivante.</h4>



<p>Spazio Martín presenta Body Heat, la prima mostra personale in Italia del fotografo greco <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://spyressence.myshopify.com" target="_blank">Spyros Rennt</a>. I corpi di amanti, amici o sconosciuti, ritratti in privato o in pubblico (spesso documentati nel contesto della scena rave underground di Berlino) sono il fulcro della mostra.</p>



<p>Rennt con Body Heat ci mostra una serie impressionante d’immagini che raccolgono le sue esperienze personali. </p>



<h4>Il suo scopo attraverso questa documentazione personale è quello di contribuire al discorso pubblico sull&#8217;emancipazione sessuale e sostenere la visibilità e la rappresentazione della comunità LGBTQ+.</h4>



<p>Mentre le immagini possono solo presentare e ricostruire le sue esperienze passate in modo inevitabilmente frammentato, l&#8217;amore che lega il fotografo agli individui, a gruppi di persone (e persino a parti dei loro corpi), è evidente in tutto il suo lavoro; è ciò che lo collega all&#8217;essenza stessa della sua comunità.</p>



<p>Body Heat di Spyros Rennt è in programmazione dal 11.11.2021 al 05.12.2021 allo Spazio Martín di Milano in Via Alfredo Catalani 35.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/spazio.martin/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spazio Martín</a> è il risultato di una collaborazione tra Fulvia Monguzzi (Miss Goffetown), pittrice, Roberto Aponte, designer e Francesco Pizzorusso, architetto. Martín è uno spazio di lavoro, un luogo di scambio d’idee, dialogo, incontro e condivisione di esperienze multidisciplinari. </p>



<h4>Martín è legato al territorio, ma vuole ampliare i suoi confini, dando visibilità a tutte le forme d&#8217;arte e di espressione.</h4>



<p>Spazio Martín si apre al pubblico come un vero e proprio atelier e spazio espositivo.</p>
