<h3>Alla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim di Venezia va in scena la prima retrospettiva Italiana dedicata a Jean Cocteau. L’Uomo del Secolo: che sia questo, o quello passato.</h3>



<p>Capita a volte di sentire a lungo parlare di qualcuno che non si è mai incontrato, ma che sembra tutti conoscano. Lo abbiamo incrociato ad un vernissage o ad una sfilata, ha frequentato brevemente uno dei nostri amici, sembra sia molto vicino a certi giri cool. Sicuramente un occhio al suo Instagram sarà d’aiuto. Ecco! È amico di quella stylist lì, scrive per quella rivista, è a tutti gli eventi. Non è neanche tanto bello — a giudicare dai suoi tanti ritratti, quelli non mancano — ma ha qualcosa che affascina. Del resto, lo seguono tutti.</p>



<p>Non resta che formarsi una opinione, e ci si baserà su quello che si vede: reale o meno che sia l’immagine che ne vien fuori, è quella che avrà pur consapevolmente scelto di mostrare. La grande visibilità, il circolo di amici importanti, la cura della propria immagine fotografica, il multitasking — ma quindi è un artista? uno scrittore? un influencer? — son tutti fattori che di solito portano a reazioni diametralmente opposte: alcuni seguiranno, altri vorranno tenersene alla larga.</p>



<p>Eppure qualcosa si perde sempre tra le righe.</p>

<p>Vien da chiedersi quale potrebbe essere, oggi, la reazione di fronte ad un Jean Cocteau. Uomo vicinissimo al nostro tempo, incarna perfettamente tutte le animE della cultura contemporanea. Cocteau poeta, certo, ma anche designer, artista, regista, sceneggiatore, <em>art director</em>. E soprattutto, ’<em>socialite</em>’: Picasso, Colette, Chanel, Schiaparelli, Diaghilev per non citare che i più noti &#8211; non manca proprio nessuno. Alto e basso si confondono continuamente: potremmo trovarlo al salone dei visconti di Noailles o nei vicoli bui; chiuso in una stanza dell’hotel Welcome, in preda ai fumi dell’oppio, o all’Institut de France con la sua spada di Cartier.</p>



<p>Esistono decine di ritratti di Cocteau, tutti curatissimi &#8211; quasi degli autoritratti. È proprio uno di questi ad aver dato il punto di partenza alla retrospettiva <strong><a href="https://www.guggenheim-venice.it/it/mostre-eventi/mostre/jean-cocteau-la-rivincita-del-giocoliere/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jean Cocteau. La rivincita del giocoliere</a></strong>, in mostra alla <strong>Collezione Peggy Guggenheim</strong> di Venezia fino al 16 Settembre 2024. Il giocoliere in questione è quello che appare in un ritratto di Philippe Halsman (quello di <a href="https://www.magnumphotos.com/arts-culture/art/philippe-halsman-salvador-dali-enduring-partnership/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dalì con i gatti volanti</a>, <em>ndr</em>) — Cocteau divinità a sei mani che allo stesso tempo legge, scrive, edita e fuma. La mano è del resto un po’ il suo feticcio, qui moltiplicata in un potenziamento all’infinito.</p>

<p>Il curatore della mostra è Kenneth E. Silver, storico dell’arte autore di uno dei più autorevoli saggi sul modernismo e la Parigi delle avanguardie, e la versatilità è la chiave del racconto messo in scena. È la prima grande retrospettiva dell’artista in territorio italiano, ed è un esordio in grande stile: più di 150 lavori tra disegni, opere grafiche, fotografie, arazzi e film. Un eclettismo che solo una messa in pagina accurata può riuscire a rendere — in questo caso, una serie di capitoli snodati attorno ad una serie di tematiche chiave: la poesia, l’Eros, il classicismo, Venezia, fino ad arrivare al cinema, la moda e il design. </p>

<p>Interessanti poi i focus trasversali sull’influenza di Cocteau sulle generazioni successive — in primo luogo Warhol, con cui ci sono molteplici punti di contatto (<a href="https://toh-magazine.com/2020/11/andy-warhol-love-sex-desire-taschen-book/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">basti pensare alle illustrazioni degli anni ’50</a>, a volte quasi sovrapponibili alle immagini più intime di Cocteau, fino ai suoi film sperimentali) — ma anche Pedro Almodovar. Due nomi che portano alla luce un’altra delle chiavi di lettura, il Cocteau gay: quello dei delicati intrecci erotici del Libro Bianco, dei pacchi generosissimi alla Tom of Finland, di amori maledetti, a volte sporchi, altre sognanti — con Orfeo e Querelle che vegliano, ammiccanti, ad ogni passo.</p>



<p>A volte le immagini non bastano, bisogna conoscere qualcuno e farsi un’impressione di prima mano: questa mostra è l’occasione giusta.</p>
